Findings and conclusion. The findings revealed that the necessity entrepreneurs in the sample were approaching middle age and likely beginning a business for the first time. They had strong support from family and very little formal schooling. The biggest challenges they faced were financing the operation and managing cashflow. They wanted to expand and seek new opportunities. Specific recommendations for practice include increasing the basic skill level of the potential entrepreneurs when they are young children; increasing the education and skill level of the current necessity entrepreneurs with highly targeted and appropriate content utilizing informal learning processes and adult education methodology; devise ways to reach out to the family and include aspects of family support in training programs; develop a mentoring program for the necessity entrepreneurs to take advantage of their reliance on socially intimate relationships for support; and targeting the timeframe of the initial months following the entrepreneur's decision to start a business as crucial for training and assistance.
