The majority of the participants felt that a mental disorder is caused by cognitive impairments and agreed that a person with a mental disorder should seek treatment, despite the existence of research that argues against these findings. However, there was a small percentage of participants who indicated that there are still cultural beliefs and values that may influence their perceptions. These facts may indicate that although Vietnamese are moving toward a pattern of seeking treatment, there is still cultural stigma that determines the type of treatment.
