Saint Mary of Veruela was the first cistercian monastery of old Aragon's Crow; it is located on Huecha's Valley. Veruela was founded in 1145 by Mr. Pedro de Atares (lord of Borja).

520 $a Saint Mary of Veruela was the first cistercian monastery of old Aragon's Crow; it is located on Huecha's Valley. Veruela was founded in 1145 by Mr. Pedro de Atares (lord of Borja).
520 $a This work shows for the first time all the main historical events those Veruela has been involved at this period of time. For this purpose, the author has studied the documents preserved in the principals historical Spanish's archives, which though unknown until now it is very relevant. He also has made a wide study of literature from Veruela.
520 $a The study is divided into six parts. Every one tries to show the historical, spacial and populational reality of verolense's space during the period of the centuries XV to XIX. The study also proves the total vinculation of Veruela's monastery with Huecha's valley and the city of Borja.
520 $a The historical study of dominion of Saint Mary of Veruela has allowed to show the different problems of monastery with his vassals, other lords and other monasteries during modern's age. It has also been the first time in which is known the Veruela's role in the foundation of Cistercian's Congregation of Aragon's Crown during the XVII century. And it has also been the first study about the disentailment of verolenses's possessions in the XIX century, as well as the salvation and conservation of monument.
