Thesis (M.A.)--Pacific Lutheran University, 1998.
Learning is accomplished when information has been stored in the memory on a long term basis. Two ways by which information is delivered effectively and retained are mediators and the seven intelligences. Mediators, tools that help people learn, originate from Lev Vygotsky's theory labeled the zone of proximal development (ZPD). Howard Gardner's seven intelligences categorize individual learning styles and ways of processing information. What form mediators and the seven intelligences take in the classroom and how they can be integrated are the basis for this qualitative inquiry in a suburban middle school. The findings from this study suggest that students exposed to the seven intelligences and mediators positively influence the retention of information.
