This study examined the relationship between violence level, Rorschach measured aggression, and psychopathy in a sample of juvenile delinquents. Violence level was determined through official court records by using the Cormier-Lang System for Quantifying Criminal History (Quinsey et al., 1998, p. 249--252) and an adaptation of item six from the Sex Offender Risk Appraisal Guide (SORAG; Quinsey et al., 1998, p. 242). The Rorschach aggressive indices included Gacono & Meloy's extended aggression scores (Gacono, 1988, 1990; Meloy & Gacono, 1992; Gacono & Meloy, 1994), the Palo Alto Destructive Content Scale (PADCS; Finney, 1955), and the aggressive movement response (AG; Exner, 2001). Psychopathy level was determined by using a youth-modified research version of Hare's (1991) Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (Forth, Hart, & Hare, 1990).

The subjects in this study included 65 male juvenile delinquents between the ages of 13--17. Hypotheses for this study were based upon the juvenile delinquent clinical and forensic literature regarding the Rorschach and psychopathy. Although no statistically significant results were obtained, salient trends in the data revealed that Gacono & Meloy's (1994) extended aggression scores provide clinically useful data to aid in the understanding of aggressive ideation. Higher PCL-R:YM Factor 1 scores approached significance ( p = .06) in relation to higher violence levels; however, study limitations were problematic and decreased the chances of finding significant results.
