The purpose of this study was to explore the personality types of registered nurses. A survey of 90 registered nurses' personality types was conducted using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Wagner Enneagram Personality Style Scales (WEPSS). Comparisons were made between subjects' MBTI and Enneagram types.
520 $a All 9 Enneagram types and 15 of the 16 MBTI types were represented. Enneagram types Five (Thinker) and Nine (Peacemaker) occurred more frequently than other Enneagram types. Relationships were seen between Enneagram types and the MBTI indices of extraversion-introversion (E-I), thinking-feeling (T-F), and judging-perceiving (J-P). Five out of 15 ISTJs were Enneagram type Six (Loyalist) and five were type Nine (Peacemaker). Six out of 13 ENFPs were type Seven (Joyful Person). Knowledge of personality types can be useful for the nursing profession in vocational counseling, team-building, self-awareness, and enhanced nurse-patient relationships.
