Thesis (M.S.)--The University of Texas at Arlington, 1998.
Commercially available computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) tools are invaluable in the state-of-the-art design and analysis methods. As complexity in design and time consciousness increases, the use of parametric design is becoming prominent. The most important reason for selecting a parametric geometry definition of component-based design is that once the configuration is specified, the design processes usually proceeds component-by-component. Each CADD software is written in a particular language for a particular platform. The part modeling and assembly capabilities of two prominent design packages, namely, Mechanical Desktop R2.0 and PT/Modeler R2.0 are studied.
