This investigation critically analyzed educational futurism as a school reform movement in education. Drawing upon Henry Levin's educational sector model, it was shown that educational futurism as school reform is currently doomed. However, an alternative argument was presented which stated that the ideas, plans, and blueprints offered by some educational futurists must be seriously considered if schools are to once again become viable social institutions. It was proposed that the futuristic agenda for directed school reform should be viewed alternatively as an agenda for adaptation to eliminate some of the contradictions that exist in education.Subjects--Topical Terms:

The four areas are: (1) the historical antecedents of educational futurism; (2) recurrent themes in educational futurist literature; (3) an analysis of the educational futurists' agenda for reform; and (4) a critical evaluation of educational futurism as a school reform movement.
