Observations of convective precipitation made with a portable X-band radar are compared to images retrieved from the Exeter C-band operational radar situated in southern Ontario during Elbow 2001: The Effect of Lake Breezes On Weather. Attempts were made with the X-band radar to locate and identify convective precursors of severe weather due to lake breeze boundary interactions. The boundary interactions on June 19<super>th</super>, July 4<super>th</super>, July 19<super>th</super>, and July 23<super>rd</super> of 2001, are presented as case studies to illustrate the performance strengths of each radar. As a diagnostic and prognostic observation and analysis tool, the X-band was able to make contributions to the research through its scanning flexibility. On July 19<super>th</super>, the X-band radar detected lower-level divergence coupled with upper-level convergence as a good example of downdrafts in the mature phase of a thunderstorm. On July 23<super>rd</super>, the X-band was used to make high-resolution scans of a downburst over St. Mary's, Ontario. In comparison, the more sensitive Exeter radar detected the boundary interactions that induced convective storms on June 19<super>th</super>, July 19<super> th</super> and July 23<super>rd</super>. On July 4<super>th</super>, both radars were used to observe flow patterns in two storms approaching the Erie shore to determine the contribution of lake breezes to enhanced convection.
