Thesis (M.S.)--D'Youville College, 2011.
The purpose of this study was to determine if college students' diets were associated with their perceived CVD risk and CVD dietary preventive knowledge. A convenience sample of 40 college students was utilized. Data were collected through a questionnaire and dietary assessment tool. Analysis included correlations and frequencies/percents. No statistically significant correlations were found. Most participants (90 %) had a diet consistent with preventing CVD, but 97.5 % perceived themselves to have at least a somewhat likely CVD risk, and only 25 % of participants were found to have adequate fat-cholesterol knowledge. This study may identify with similar studies that found no association. Research is not conclusive, and additional is needed to find the variables influencing this population's dietary behaviors.
