In the process of acquisition Gypsies show preference for the music of Turkish and Modern styles and rejection for the music of Pre-Turkish style. I identify four principal sources of acquisition in the 1980s as Indian film music, Turkish popular music, Bosnian and Serbian newly composed folk music, and Bulgarian Gypsy music.

In the process of selling Gypsy musicians select specific tunes that are appreciated by their patrons, perform them on specific instruments, adjust the price and behavior, and even wear special costumes. The adjustments reflect the traditional attitudes among the ethnic communities in Kosovo, as well as the new attitudes developed during the recent outburst of inter-ethnic animosities.

In the process of transformation Gypsy musicians can change all musical parameters. The tunes can be performed by different media, form can be altered, melody can be simplified or enriched, rhythm changed, tempo increased or reduced, lyrics omitted or replaced by other, sometimes in a different language. Despite some common level of aesthetics, the direction of change is not constant, indicating that Gypsies do not adapt tune to any specific musical standard. The change itself, the variation, often in a form of improvisation, is a value. It is in this variation that I see the Gypsy creativity.
