Thesis (M.S.E.)--Southwest Minnesota State University, 2010.
This action research project examined the impact of incorporating music and movement into teaching strategies of students with special needs. The population consisted of five students with emotional and behavioral disorder in grades 1 through 6 in a West Central Minnesota school in the 2009--2010 school year. Instrumentation included a pre- and posttest survey on their perceptions, behavior observation charts, and pre- and posttest scores for academics. The findings of the study revealed these students preferred music and movement added to math and reading class, their unfavorable behaviors decreased, and posttest scores in math and reading improved. Results of this study will provide information for educators interested in music and movement in a special needs classroom.
