Thesis (M.Arch.)--Dalhousie University (Canada), 2009.
As population growth surges in urban centres so too does the agricultural land necessary to sustain it. Landscape fragments are an artifact of this urban proliferation and too often are left abandoned to neglect. This thesis proposes to reevaluate these marginal spaces as the receptacles of a threatened global diversity. The Turcot Yards, a former railyard in Montreal, is the pilot site for this endeavour. A series of mobile architectural instruments are deployed to collect and disperse seeds (literal and metaphorical): stockpiling diversity and cultivating the latent social and ecological potential of these waste landscapes.
