The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of 32 hours of sleep deprivation on anaerobic performance. Five males and two females completed a Wingate test, along with three dominant hand tests of maximum grip strength, in a well rested state (control), and after 32 hours of sleep deprivation (treatment). The control and treatment tests were separated by one week. The following variables were examined: AVGPS, MXGPS, TW, RW, PAP, RPAnP, MAnP, RMAnP, FI, RPE, HR, SBP, and DBP. An ANOVA with repeated measures was used to compare the two groups. A probability of p<0.05 was used to determine statistical significance. A 32-hour sleep deprivation cycle produced a significant decrease in PAnP, RPAnP, MAnP and HR. These results suggest that sleep deprivation adversely affects anaerobic performance as well as the HR response to anaerobic exercise.
