This study utilized six psychological variables to understand the relationship between Leisure Time Physical Activity (LTPA) and perception of Quality of Life (QOL) on the basis of two notions. The first is that "Ways individuals make decisions and live their lives influence their perception of quality of life" (Curfman-Janssen, 1999, p. 2). The second is that leisure activity is viewed through personal and social situational components (Gerard T. Kyle, 2001). This study only focused on the personal components because the perception of QOL is affected more by personal components than by social situational components. The personal components stated by Kyle are attitude, perception, values or beliefs, and needs or goals, and six leisure-related psychological variables deliberately selected correspond to those personal components: (a) attitude---Leisure Attitude (LA), (b) perceptions---Time Perspective (TP), (c) values or beliefs---Enduring Involvement (EI), and (d) needs or goals---Situational Involvement (SI), Flow, and Enjoyment.

According to K-Means Cluster analysis, ANCOVA, MANCOVA, multiple regression analysis, and SEM, following findings were revealed. Past Positive and Future TP people showed significant higher levels of all the psychological variables and QOL. Behavioral LA most positively related to EI. Sign Attraction EI showed positive relationships to Flow, SI, and Enjoyment. All the Flow, SI, and Enjoyment positively related to QOL, and SI was the strongest contributor to enhancing QOL. SEM model indicated that people's positive LA toward LTPA in general (e.g., I give physical leisure activities a high priority over other leisure activities) positively relates to people's involvement in a currently participating LTPA (e.g., I attach great importance to this activity). This involvement in LTPA positively relates to Flow (e.g., I feel a sense of harmony or union with it), Enjoyment (e.g., I experience enjoyment from the excitement of the activity), and SI (e.g., when I am in a local tournament, this activity considerably heightens my interest). Consequently, these positive psychological benefits from LTPA enhance perception of QOL (e.g., my mood or feeling is recently very good). In the discussion section, theoretical, practical, and future research implications are presented.
