Thesis (Ph.D.)--TUI University, 2010.
This research improved and expanded upon the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by offering a clearer understanding of technology acceptance and usage by professional users, specifically radiologic technologists. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analyzed relationships amongst multiple variables: compatibility in terms of satisfaction and social/peer influence, ease of use, usefulness, attitude, usage, support/training, quality, and productivity/efficiency. A stringent Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) process was undertaken to achieve a well fitting measurement model before the PATH analyses occurred with the structural model and proposed hypotheses. With the qualitative review, thematic analysis and code development were used to triangulate data with the quantitative results. The qualitative data supported the quantitative findings.

Using the established TAM foundation as it related to the individual context and the technological context, this research found strong support and direct effect for the significance of individual attitude as it relates to usage. Additionally, this research demonstrated the significant role the perception of usefulness and ease of use plays in terms of their direct effect on attitude. Further, results generated from prior TAM research suggested that the implementation context for a particular technology should also be assessed based on the compatibility of the implemented technology with respect to current work practices and user satisfaction. This research demonstrated significant and direct support for ease of use (Job Environment) as it related to compatibility (Status). Most importantly, a primary research objective was attained. The research successfully introduced alternative implementation contextual factors (Quality and Productivity/Efficiency). This research found strong support for the Quality/Productivity dimension as it related to usefulness (Job Environment). Overall, the proposed research model accounted for a high proportion of the variance as it related to usage and acceptance in terms of the findings related to the critical antecedents.

This empirical and theoretically driven TAM research is beneficial as it relates to the evaluation of diverse professional users since it clearly delineates the importance of certain conceptual variables evaluated. The overall research goals were achieved, as the research objective was to too clearly identify pertinent "change agents" that can assist management and academia in fostering a culture of technology acceptance and usage.
