The role that Latter-day Saint church history, teachings, and community have on member preparedness was thought to cause different outcomes when compared with other Christians.

The role that Latter-day Saint church history, teachings, and community have on member preparedness was thought to cause different outcomes when compared with other Christians.
520 $a Participants included 160 Latter-day Saints and 140 members of other Christian denominations. The majority of respondents were female (63.3%) with a male response of 36.7%. The age range of the participants was between 17 years and 86 years of age with a mean age of 47.26. Measures used in the study were: the ASPIRES (Piedmont, 2004a), the Bi-Polar Adjective Rating Scale (Piedmont, 1995), the Emergency Preparedness Scale developed for use in this study, the Self-Efficacy Scale (Sherer and Maddux, 1982), the Affect Balance Scale (Bradburn, 1969), the Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener, Emmons, Larsen, and Griffin, 1985) and a demographic questionnaire.
520 $a Differences were found between the Latter-day Saint and the Other Christian group with respect to the above variables. Religiosity and spirituality had significant effects on satisfaction with life and preparedness for the Latter-day Saints. For the same group, the personality variables predicted self-efficacy, which in turn predicted affect balance, satisfaction with life and preparedness. The other Christian group showed personality predicting self-efficacy, which in turn predicted subjective well-being.
520 $a These findings suggest that religion can imbue behaviors with religious and spiritual connotation, which may provide mental health professionals with insight when working with people of different faith persuasions.
