The purpose of this investigation was to examine the effects of 0.05g·kg-1·day-1 of orally ingested L-arginine (L-arg) on measures of upper body and lower body muscular performance. Resistance trained participants (n=18) were divided into one of three groups in a random, double-blind fashion: (1) ingest L-arg first then placebo (A:P); (2) ingest placebo first then L-arg (P:A); or (3): control (CON). The intervention lasted four weeks and participants were tested on five separate occasions. Each occasion consisted of a maximal effort, isokinetic knee extension test for 15 repetitions at 180°·sec and a YMCA bench press test. Work fatigue, total work, and peak torque were measured on the isokinetic dynamometer and number of repetitions completed was measured during the YMCA bench press test. Repeated measures ANOVA's ( P<0.05) revealed no significant mean difference among treatments in any of the aforementioned measured variables.
