Thesis (M.A.)--California State University, Dominguez Hills, 2002.
This historical composite and analysis of Chile, primarily the years of Salvador Allende and Augusto Pinochet, will demonstrate how Chile experienced drastic culture shifts in: family/religious values, social interaction, social awareness, political interest and activity, and economic priorities. As will be discussed, the sudden paradigm shift in cultural identity is predominantly due to an abruptly imposed capitalist system under the intense pressure of dictatorship. Research has been extracted from: printed texts, demographic reports, political chronicles, local newspapers and other published material of the time or pertaining to that era. Most significant are biographical accounts of specific Chilean individuals who were interviewed for this research. These, coupled with the historical accounts, will be examined in early chapters and the results will follow in a discussion on social and cultural ramifications and the cost of cultural change.
