This thesis demonstrates the key role restructuring plays in the labor process, the division of labor and issues concerning occupational health and safety. Overall this thesis has confirmed that restructuring has substantially altered the labor process, the division of labor and the way through which health and safety concerns are dealt with. In terms of labor process, workers have seen great increases in workload while staff sizes plummet. Deskilling and work speed ups have been instituted to help increase production. The division of labor has become very rigid since restructuring, and health and safety concerns are being neglected due to time constraints caused by restructuring.

In terms of literature that focuses on restructuring, most examines its economic effects. This thesis, in examining restructuring from a shop floor, gives a new perspective on how restructuring affects workers.
