Thesis (M.A.)--University of Wyoming, 2009.
Reginald Laubin and his wife Gladys represented Plains Indian cultures for over sixty years of the twentieth century through dance presentations, lectures, and a series of books. Non-Indians by birth, the Laubins learned about Indians through books and museums. They were situated in a complex network of Indians and non-Indians who also represented and advocated for Indian Country throughout the twentieth century. As a result of their relationship with Lakota elders the Laubins became culturally Lakota. Their access to Lakota people made them highly effective cultural brokers as they presented their Plains Indian material before audiences in the United States and abroad. The Laubins also devoted much of their life to cultural revitalization movements on Indian reservations. Plains Indian hobbyists have turned to the Laubins' material as a source of information in their own interpretations of traditional Plains Indian life. The legacy of the Laubins' work can be seen today in both Indian Country and among Indian hobbyists.
