Thesis (M.S.)--D'Youville College, 2005.
This descriptive study investigated the consumption of caffeinated products among athletes at a small western New York liberal arts college. Caffeine use was related to each athlete's gender, schedule demands, sleep levels, and reason for consumption. The tool was a researcher-designed caffeine consumption questionnaire. The sample consisted of male and female college basketball players. Of the 31 subjects, 39% had a high, 48% moderate, 10% minimal, and 3% had zero caffeine intake. One-way analysis of variance did not show significant differences in caffeine usage compared to gender differences, schedule demands, and sleep levels. This study found that the majority (87%) of the subjects consumed either a moderate or high amount of caffeine.
