Adviser: Heather H. Keller.
Thesis (M.Sc.)--University of Guelph (Canada), 2001.
The objectives of the research were to: determine if nutritional risk as assessed by SCREEN is independently associated with factors in three conceptual models of nutritional risk; compare consistencies across models to determine the most important factors in determining nutritional risk among vulnerable older adults; determine if SCREEN represents nutritional status as defined by the conceptual models; and perform convergent validation of SCREEN using measures of health and functional ability. Utilizing the data set from the PREVENTS research project, descriptive, bivariate and multivariate analysis of baseline data were performed with SPSS V. 7.5. The R square values of the final models ranged from .291 to .484. Social support and quality of life variables appear to be important independent factors associated with nutritional risk SCREEN appears to be a valid measure of nutritional risk.
