Marze Por Gohar: The Struggle to Bring Democracy to Iran is a documentary exploring the mission of an expatriate Iranian political party opposing the current fundamentalist regime in Iran. The group, Marze Por Gohar or its English equivalent the Glorious Frontiers Party, was founded in Iran by newspaper publisher Roozbeh Farahanipour, as a group of young journalists seeking freedom of press in Iran in 1998. The group realized that in order to get any notice from the current regime, they would have to broaden their political agenda. In July of 1999, they organized the student uprising at Tehran University, frequently credited as the most significant uprising of the last 27 years. Members of the group were arrested and tortured. Subsequently, few were able to escape and move to the United States under refugee status. These members are still working to bring down the current regime from abroad with their headquarters in Los Angeles, California, home to the largest expatriate Iranian community. Many of their members are still in Iran, and they have established a broad member base around the world. The piece takes a close look at their goals, their accomplishments and the obstacles that stand in their way of toppling the current regime and bringing secularism into a formerly Islamic state. The film runs 24 minutes.
