This project consists of a history of Elysian Park from the first incursion of Spanish explorers and includes a panoramic rendering of the ridgeline of the park as seen from the Los Angeles River. This plein air view of the landscape portrays the naturalized river at a point north of the first campsite of the Portola Expedition and illustrates the relationship of natural features that led to the founding of the Pueblo of Los Angeles nearby.Subjects--Topical Terms:

The thesis detailing the history of Elysian Park was compiled by consulting primary and secondary sources on the park's significance in the history of Los Angeles. The artistic component of the project shows the park profile and its relationship to the river and surrounding areas, especially the Taylor Yard open space where drawings were executed.
