Thesis (M.A.E.)--Pacific Lutheran University, 2006.
This thesis studies the relationship between the dispositional data of adjudicated juvenile delinquents in a day reporting rehabilitative setting and their lack of motivations to both attend and engage in school. This study inquires into the reasons for low student attendance and low student engagement in the learning process and then to devise strategies and tactics to positively impact, even change, these issues. The study details tactics to build a fundamental understanding of the students, both in terms of delinquency and disposition, and how to further comprehend student needs by building a rapport. It then progresses through a hierarchy of communication to ultimately look at the dispositions facing the students and how they correlate to student delinquency. Finally, strategies and tactics are devised implemented and tracked in relation to Maslow's hierarchy of needs with hopes of increasing overall achievement and attendance levels.Subjects--Topical Terms:
