Participants completed four measures: (a) Demographic Data Questionnaire, (b) Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), (c) Client Satisfaction Questionnaire (CSQ), and (d) Life Stressors and Social Resources Inventory - Adult (LISRES-A). Additional data were collected from the District of Columbia Pretrial Services Agency's (DCPSA) - Pretrial Real time Information Systems Manager (PRISM) and the District of Columbia Superior Court (DCSC) - Integrated Justice Information System (IJIS).

The statistical tests used to analyze the data were the Pearson Product Moment Correlation, Chi-Square, ANOVA, and Ordinal Logistic Regression. Results from a Chi-Square analysis revealed there was a statistically significant relationship between substance abuse patterns and level of criminal offense chi 2(1, N=118) = 5.66, p =.02. Furthermore, an exploratory analysis found a statistically significant relationship between level of criminal offense, housing status, and substance abuse patterns chi2(1, N=118) = 5.40, p = .03.

Findings from this study have implications for the field of counseling psychology to engage in additional research, training, and educating the community, criminal justice, and social services systems on providing holistic, culturally responsive psychological services to adult persons diagnosed with psychiatric disorders involved in the criminal justice system. Moreover, there is need for counseling psychologists to provide an array of psychological services to forensics involved persons.
