Elements of the discipline of authentic movement, originating in the practice of movement therapy, are transferred to the disciplines of educational theory and practice. A new educational theory and practice, called authentic education, emerges. This theory establishes a correspondence between the authentic movement concepts of mover, witness, and container and the educational concepts of student, teacher, and school. The new theory challenges the perspective of behaviorist psychology in the current practice and evaluation of education, offering transpersonal psychology as a preferred psychological tradition in which to frame educational theory and practice. This theoretical inquiry is framed by critical theory, intuitive inquiry, and the participatory paradigm.
