The use of quantitative analysis as metrics for success in sports and business has so permeated our society that ministry success is often measured solely by numerical results. If a ministry has not enjoyed quantifiable growth, the leaders often find themselves judged a failure by those around them. Unhealthy metrics for ministry success may represent a significant contributing factor to ministerial discouragement.

This project identified a set of important biblical metrics and benchmarks for success in ministry that reflect the sovereignty of God and His divine timetable. Qualitative metrics affirm the biblical ministry achievements of churches of all sizes, not only the numerically superior. Even when sincere ministry efforts do not result in a quantifiable increase granted by God, celebrating intermediate victories using biblical qualitative metrics and benchmarks can enhance the emotional and spiritual well-being of leadership families, resulting in healthier churches.

Based on a health promotion and wellness model, this project proposed integrating qualitative ministry outcomes and benchmarks into revised values, vision, and mission statements. The results were measured by feedback from participants as they self-assessed attitudinal changes and satisfaction levels. It was hoped that measuring ministry success using qualitative indicators would encourage ministry families and lay leaders, thereby enhancing their spiritual and emotional health and well-being.
