The ability to transfer knowledge is a necessary attribute for attaining clinical best practice. Despite the existence of opportunities to improve clinical practice the ability to implement necessary change has been limited. In certain circumstances considerable practice variance exists that contributes to reduced quality and increased cost of patient care.

Change cannot be prescribed by administration and large system interventions will most likely not be successful. However, in preparing an organization for this unpredictable future one also creates the opportunity for success.
