Thesis (M.A.)--University of Southern California, 2006.
Most women feel relief after having an abortion. However, a small percentage of women suffer serious emotional problems known as post abortion stress syndrome (PASS). Symptoms of PASS range from crying at the sight of babies to attempting suicide. Some women are immediately afflicted by PASS, but for others, their suffering begins years later, sometimes on the anniversary of what would've been the aborted baby's birthday.

While research began more than 30 years ago, PASS remains virtually un-dealt with because of its political controversy. Conservatives say that these women are suffering because they killed a child and the focus should be on outlawing abortion. Liberals say these women were depressed before their abortions; therefore, blaming the abortion for their problems is just a conservative ploy to make the procedure illegal. As a result, nobody wants to take responsibility for these women or put money into new research.
