A comparative analysis was made of Villa Gardens, an urban continuing care retirement community (CCRC), using a case study format with data collected from two surveys, a review of the CCRC industry, a post-occupancy walk through, interviews, a review of planning documents and codes. The study found that present building and safety standards alone in residential facilities are insufficient to meet the changing needs of the elderly consumers as they age.
