Change detection using remote sensing techniques are important in monitoring the changes in the landuse and landcover of a region. The goal of the thesis was to analyze the changes in the landuse and the landcover of the Fort Cobb Reservoir Watershed for three different time periods (1992, 2001 and 2005). A hybrid classification technique was used to classify the Landsat TM images, while the post classification change detection technique was used to determine the change between the images. The results showed a decrease of 14% in cultivated crops for the watershed between 1992 and 2005. Native range and grass increased from 30% of the watershed in 1992 to 43% in 2005. One of the possible reasons for these changes can be attributed to the variations in the enrollment of agricultural lands into the USDA's Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) which started in 1985.
