Thesis (Th.M.)--Fuller Theological Seminary, School of Intercultural Studies, 2003.
This thesis is an analysis of the leadership emergence of three Javanese Christian Church pastors from the perspective of J. Robert Clinton's Leadership Emergence Theory. Primary issues examined include: the extent to which the basic principles of Clinton's theory fit a Javanese leadership setting; the Javanese cultural concepts of leadership which influence Christian leaders in Java; implications for leadership training for those working within a Javanese context. Descriptive and evaluative research was conducted by literature review and case study analysis. The study found inherent leadership values and follower dynamics within the Javanese worldview, and that Leadership Emergence Theory is applicable to Javanese leadership.
