The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship that dance had to four-year-old girls' self-esteem and social skills. This study investigated the relationships between parent perceptions of their daughters' socioemotional development and participation in dance programs. Participants included sixty parents of girls ages 48-56 months. Participants were grouped into thirty parents of girls who were enrolled in a dance program and thirty parents of girls who were not enrolled in a dance program. Parents provided information on their daughters' social skills and self-esteem by completing the Social Skills Rating System-Parent Preschool Level and Behavior Rating Form-Revised respectively. Results of the study indicated that there was a moderate, positive relationship between social skills and self-esteem; however, enrollment in a dance program did not have any correlation to parent reports of their daughters' self-esteem or social skills.
