By the methodology of action research, three male registered psychiatric nurses addressed their experiences in the specialization of psychiatric nursing. The following topics: prior health care experience, attraction to the field of psychiatric nursing; societal views of the male nurse and recruitment strategies for males into the field of psychiatric nursing were investigated by the methodology of narrative inquiry. In addition, three college male psychiatric nursing students via a focus group spoke of their experiences within the psychiatric nursing field.
