This investigative study evaluated the St. Vincent's Health and Lifestyle Center (SVHLC) mammography program, which has been offering screening services to women in the surrounding communities for the past five years. A random sample of the six hundred Profile forms and Survey forms from 1997 to 1999 were entered into a database. The analysis showed a mean age of 54. Most of the women who attended lived in the Bridgeport area. For all years, the majority of the clients were white; however, in 1999 the proportion of Hispanic women increased while black women decreased. The most common site used in 1997 was the Main Street office, with an increase in the mobile unit sites in 1999. Factors associated with the use of this program are low cost, insurance issues and physician referral, with some differences by race. This description will enhance SVHLC's ability to monitor utilization, conduct evaluation, and identify community needs.
