Thesis (M.S.)--University of Houston, 2003.
High levels of aerobic fitness and regular physical activity provide positive benefits to health. However, many people are still inactive and have fitness levels that put them at risk for cardiovascular disease. The environment is hypothesized as being related to physical activity and fitness. The purpose of this study was to assess the perceived physical environment and convenient facilities for physical activity and determine their influence on aerobic fitness and physical activity. Archival data were used for this study. The sample consisted of 206 students during the spring semester of 1999. Hierarchical linear regression was used to identify correlates of aerobic fitness and physical activity. Results showed that aerobic fitness was positively related to convenient facilities for physical activity; while the perceived home environment was positively related to physical activity. These results validate the hypothesis that the perceived home environment and convenient facilities positively influence aerobic fitness and physical activity.Subjects--Topical Terms:
