Purpose. The primary focus of this study was to provide for a sample of 625 Chinese high school students evidence concerning the internal-consistency reliability, the intercorrelations, construct validity, and criterion-related validity of scores on each subscale of the MSPSE and DOSC-Form S, Chinese versions. The results of the exploratory factor analyses were considered to provide evidence of the multidimensionality of both measures.

Method. To obtain information regarding the internal consistency of scores on each subscale of the MSPSE and DOSC-Form S, coefficients were calculated for scores on each factor subscale. Both orthogonal (varimax) and oblique (promax) exploratory factor analyses were performed. The number of factors extracted and subsequently rotated in both orthogonal and oblique solutions corresponded to the number of factors hypothesized in MSPSE and DOSC-Form S.

Conclusions. (1) The MSPSE and DOSC-Form S, Chinese versions, indicated a satisfactory level of reliability and homogeneity for scores on subscales. (2) Scores on the ACA and LEA factor subscale as well as on the ASP and IDE factor subscales failed to share a common construct representing a positive affect of academic self-concept among Taiwanese students. (3) The exploratory factor analyses supported the multidimensionality of the Academic Self-Concept and Self-Efficacy constructs in Taiwanese students. (4) For the two measures of MSPSE and DOSC-Form S, Chinese versions, empirical evidences in the form of one or more will define common factors reflecting the same construct or constructs was lacking.
