Thesis (M.S.)--California State University, Fullerton, 1998.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the number of injuries being reported by athletes and the wins or losses of their team. It was hypothesized that athletes would report significantly more injuries after a loss than after a win. The sources used in this study were the injury report files and the win/loss files available in the athletic training room and the sports information office at California State University, Fullerton. Chi-square analysis failed to support the original hypothesis that significantly more mild injuries were reported after losses than after wins. However, severe injuries were reported mainly after losses for each individual team (women's basketball, soccer, volleyball and softball, as well as men's basketball, soccer and baseball), for all women team sports, for all men team sports and, for all women and men team sports for the 1994-1996 period. Finally, more research seems necessary.
