The purpose of this study was to determine whether, undergraduate and graduate level dance majors at California State University, Long Beach participate in supplemental strength programs, and to determine if those who do, sustained fewer injuries while dancing. In addition, attitudes regarding various forms of strength training and conditioning were examined in hopes to better understand dancer beliefs towards the use of such programs.

Descriptive analysis indicated: 57.2% of the dancers reported sustaining chronic injuries while dancing; dancers believed muscular strength could help prevent injury, however, only 57.3% engaged in supplemental strength training; misconceptions about technique classes and other forms of supplemental training in regard to building muscular strength were found.
