This dissertation address the question: What must a Filipino pastor learn to become a more effective preacher of God's Word? The target audience of the project are the Filipino pastors who are in Metro-Manila, especially those who belong to the Christian Reformed Church of the Philippines. The project involved conducting an actual training program in biblical preaching which can be duplicated primarily to train lay pastors, but can also be modified for a seminary setting. Both the participating pastors and their respective evaluators believe that the participants have improved as preachers, especially in their sermon preparation and delivery, as a result of the training. This dissertation confirms that effective biblical preaching is more than just learning preaching methods and techniques. It requires a growing personal intimacy with God, a prayerful ability to exegete and relevantly apply the Scriptures, a meaningful connection with and good testimony before the congregation and full reliance upon the Spirit of God.
