- 105 p.
Adviser: Katherine Jackson.
Thesis (M.A.)--Ursuline College, 2001.
This study explored the use of mandalas in art therapy with children as a therapeutic technique. This study also investigated whether first drawing the mandala led to improved focus on the next art task offered after the mandala was completed. This research focused on art therapy utilizing mandala drawings with children who were diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or children who had experienced divorce. By applying a quasi experimental design, this quantitative study examined the use of the mandala through the case studies of three boys ages 7 to 11.

The results of this study indicated that mandalas were a useful therapeutic technique in art therapy with children, and that there was a link between creating a mandala and improved focus on a subsequent art task. The participants of this research responded favorably to the therapeutic techniques presented to them and utilized the mandala as part of the process.
