Thesis (M.S.)--Texas Woman's University, 2002.
The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between BMI and percent body fat among White, Black, Hispanic, and Asian women by using the existing data on file from the Institute for Women's Health at Texas Woman's University. Anthropometric measurements from a total of 143 records from studies conducted between 1994 and 1998 were used. The participants were healthy premenopausal women (ages: 20–45). Significant differences were found in height, age, lean mass, and bone mineral content among the four ethnic groups. A positive correlation was found between BMI and percent body fat in all four ethnic groups. The relationship was similar among the four groups of study women indicating no difference in ethnicity. Crosstabulations on NH's standard and Lohman's standard were done on the four groups of women and found that there was not a match in all of the categories in the four groups of women.
