This literature-based study re-envisions dance/movement therapy (DMT) as a community-based practice, capable of addressing the psychosocial needs of children affected by war and organized violence. For most child refugees from the developing world, numerous extreme stressors exacerbate those of exposure to armed conflict. Assessing the multiple dimensions of these children's vulnerability and strength necessitates a risk factor <italic>vs</italic>. protective factor analysis of stress and resilience. With the evidence supporting a differential association between “traumatic exposure” and subsequent psychological disturbance, investigations of factors conducive to adaptational outcomes are highlighted, as these may provide foundation for preventive interventions. Theories of trauma, childhood, and ritual are appraised cross-culturally. A psychosocial support program for resettled Southern Sudanese youth illustrates DMT's transcultural relevance, particularly given the modality's predication on an integral connectedness of mind and body. A new Inventory is provided as a tool for the development of relevant, effective interventions with war refugee children.
