This thesis provides an analysis of a projected course based on a somatic approach, utilizing Ideokinesis and the Bartenieff Fundamentals, for the current Chilean undergraduate dance curricula. Related to this is the analysis of concepts underlying Somatics as a field, and how they are of value in American dance education. In-depth description of principles and concepts of Ideokinesis and the Bartenieff Fundamentals are provided. Three Chilean undergraduate dance curricula are analyzed as follows: University of Chile: Espiral, in association with University Academia Humanismo Cristiano, and University ARCIS. All three have a strong basis in the Leeder Method of modern dance, and an overview of this system is provided. In addition, the three Chilean dance curricula are studied in terms of the existing body knowledge and Somatic courses. A course based in Ideokinesis and the Bartenieff Fundamentals is proposed for dance programs in Chile, with discussion of benefits for students.
