Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Miami, 2002.
Theory integration in criminology has been undertaken without providing a serious critical discussion of (1) its relationship to theory integration in sociology, (2) its formal definition as a theory-development strategy, (3) its success in achieving its goal—namely, producing complex explanations of crime—and (4) its theoretical bases. This dissertation addresses these issues and specifically focuses on the fourth problem by discussing the theoretical assumptions of this theoretical stratagem, and providing both a critique of the feasibility of these tenets and an alternative mode of integration based on quantum theory.
