Building on the impressive first edition, this new edition has been fully revised and updatedto analyse and compare the market reforms implemented in Chile since the deadly coup of 1973. It examines the intense reforms that were launched under the dictatorship of general Pinochetand summarizes the three democratic governments of Presidents Aylwin, Frei Ruiz-Tagle, Lagos, and largely coversthe mandate of President Michelle Bachelet. Ricardo Ffrench-Davis challenges the widespread theory that there is only one successful Chilean economic model, through in-depth analysis he demonstrates that since 1973 there were several sub-periods of notably diverse economic and social outcomes. These models are discussed throughout the book, highlighting the trends of Chile's economic growth during the past 50 years, revealing the relevant successes and failures of the Chilean economy. Economic Reforms in Chile has been revised and expanded to include new chapters on exports and growth and on reforms and policies since the contagion of the Asian crisis, in 1998.
