This book presents an innovative approach to investigating early childhood and human culture more generally. The Day in the Life project studied young children and their families in seven different countries worldwide. The findings of the international, multidisciplinary team are synthesised here in a collaboratively authored study. Different paths to thriving are illustrated through words and images as the authors capture interactions of the girls with their environments, including caregivers. Embodiment, sound, movement and language are all considered in the light of a dynamic approach to multimodal research. The result is a fascinating new contribution to studies of human culture, demonstrating how the children learn an enormous amount about the environments in which they live, transforming their own understanding and family life in the course of their activities. The book willbe of interest to all those engaged in research and practice concerned with resilience in early childhood, families and the development of multimodal, participatory research methods.

"An international team of researchers videoed a day in the life of two-and-a-half-year-old girls at home in Canada, Italy, Peru, Thailand, Turkey, the UK and the USA. Different paths to wellbeing are illustrated through words and images. The book examines how human culture is shaped through interactions involving young children and their families"--Provided by publisher.
