Multiculturalism is an issue of concern for political scientists, sociologists and philosophers. In recent years, it has also been at the forefront of political debates. Various types of multiculturalist policies have been defended and criticized. Should persons, cultural groups and peoples be recognized in their various cultural, religious and ethnic identities? Can we recognize groups andnot only individuals? What groups should be recognized: feminists, homosexuals, ethnic minorities and religious groups? These questions have been hotly debated for some time, but we can now benefit from the experience of particular multiculturalist policies and of their confrontation with reality. This book offers critical reflections by established academics on the crisis of multiculturalism thatoccurred in Great Britain, the Netherlands and Canada. They provide an occasion to develop a sophisticated understanding of societies characterized by religious, ethnic and cultural diversity.
